Stormy weather in the forecast

I checked my weather app before I went to bed and noticed that from 8 am on there will be heavy rain and extreme wind gusts .
So I get up at 5:30 am to start my Camino for the day. On my way through Pamplona‘s old-town I run into one of the bands from last night…only the tuba player was still playing though, the rest of the band looks like they had a good night:))

The sidewalks are slippery from the rain last night as I rush out of the city. Soon the street turns into a mud way straight up to the Alto del Perdon ( mountain top of forgiveness). The sky all in a sudden starts pouring down and wind gusts up to 65 km/h make it feel even colder. I pass by Heidi from Minneapolis and offer her to walk close behind me as she was fighting her way up the very windy mountain. Up on top we are in thick fog - absolutely nothing to see of the marching pilgrim monument erected in 1996. the stormy wind up here makes it feel so uncomfortable that I head straight down again.

Legend has it that the devil offered passing pilgrims to drink from the fountain of the Fuente de la Techa short below the mountain peak if they deny god and St. James - of course the good pilgrims turned down the devil‘s offer.

The way down from Alto del Perdon was very steep and the rain made it almost impossible to not slip. I am moving downhill like a snail, after a mile or so the way flattens out and I sprint towards Obamos and then Puente de La Reina.

I got to Puente de la Reina just in time for Sunday mass at 12 pm and decide to attend there before heading to Hostal Plaza where I will spend the night.

Tomorrow is a special day - St. Isidro Day, the important Spanish Saint. That’s why this church has already the Isidro Statue ready on a carry plate for the procession tomorrow.
