Back to the Camino (Sunday May 21)
On Saturday I meet Sigrid‘s brother Hebsche on the Costa Brava ( close to Alicante) and we drive into the mountains to the fabulous Spanish restaurant El Trasdellador, honest and hearty Spanish food. Chiperones con Ajio (little squids with garlic) to name one of the tasty dishes. I enjoy this Spanish cuisine in all its variety!
Very early Sunday morning I drive over to the Alicante airport (50 km) to return my rental car. I planned to take a taxi to the train station of Alicante which is locate 11 km away from the Terminal, but no taxi to be found at this hour. I knock on the door of a bus driver infringe of departures and ask:‘ How can I get to the train station?‘ ‚With this bus‘ he responds in Spanish. ‚And when do you leave?‘ ‚Right now‘. What a perfect coincidence - problem solved. I use one of the high speed trains via Madrid to bring me back to Logrono.
4.5 hours later I arrive in Logrono and step outside to continue my way to Santiago. The first few km feel funny. Will I be able to do this walk again? What if I have to stop? I abandon all negativity from my thoughts and start enjoying the first part out of Logrono along a beautiful lake landscape. Soon after it gets rather monoton crossing the motorway several times, but I keep humming Melodie’s of my ‚disco times‘, and my steps get lighter.
After 5 hours I reach Najera, no breakfast stop before as I already ate on the train. I never really saw Najera at day light and I detect a beautiful old town this time around. I also never noticed before that there was a convent here. Walking with open eyes and mind I suck in the atmosphere of the town, also the impressive red rocks sourrauuding the village almost completely.
I continue for a little bit as my target today is Azofra. A steap way out of Najera brings me to the Alto Rioja are. After just another hour I reach Azofra: like so often the big church in town is closed. I just get to take a picture from Nosse Seniora de Los Angeles from the outside and check into my little B&B for the night.
I sink deep on the bed and only get up for a snack in this place before calling it a day.
